Review - City of Horror

       How many of you have seen or even read the walking dead series? Then you all know, that the real threat in a zombie invasion, aren't only the brain-hungry walkers.

The real horror lies among ourselves... In order to survive, shall I trust a stranger or even my friends?

In 2012, Asmodee / Repos Productions released a fresh zombie theme boardgame, that tried and succeeded to capture this very feeling. So with great pleasure I present you another zombie game, that plays a lot of different.

       In the City of Horror you're trying to survive in a pandemic zombie infested town. To achieve this, you'll have to do what ever it takes... from bribery to screwing your best friends. So 3-6 players battle to stay alive in this God forsaken city for 4 hours (turns) until the rescue helicopter arrives. Every survivor has its powers and weaknesses that you have to think clever and use them the right moment. In each turn you secretly choose where to move one of your characters, in an enormous tile based city. Then the zombies move and you resolve what happens in each of the six locations you're hiding (favorite the 3d water tower).  Although fresh, City of Horror isn't a new concept, but it's a better in all ways remake of Mall of Horrors. 

       So how does it plays? It plays smooth like butter and with the appropriate group  it's a crazy fun like a roller-coaster ride. I underline the word appropriate, cause this board game has a voting mechanism and it requires the proper social group, to pull out the best of the negotiations, backstabbing, agonies and laughter.

City of Horror is an amazing experience, full of thrills and crazy moments that you'll  remember for a long time. It has excellent components and simple enough rules(download here) for any gamer. My only dislike on this one, are the card board zombies... what ever happened to our beloved minis?
